A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
EFFECTS: The combination of a subsiding northwest swell and large, short period seas, generated by strong north to northeast winds over the western half of the State, will maintain rough surf around the advisory level across north facing shores of the smaller islands tonight.
Expect surf along north facing shores of Molokai and Maui of 10 to 15 feet. In addition, some east facing shores of the smaller islands exposed to north swell will experience elevated surf.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
IMPACTS: EXPECT STRONG BREAKING WAVES, SHORE BREAK, AND STRONG LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS, MAKING SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: BEACHGOERS, SWIMMERS, AND SURFERS SHOULD HEED ALL ADVICE GIVEN BY OCEAN SAFETY OFFICIALS AND EXERCISE CAUTION. BOATERS SHOULD EXPECT RECREATIONAL SURFERS AND BODY BOARDERS UTILIZING HARBOR CHANNELS TO ACCESS SURFING AREAS.
INFORMATION: Maui Civil Defense Agency will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or NOAA Weather broadcasts for any updates.
