UPDATE: Monday morning, Maui Police Lt. William Juan reports that the incident is being handled as a suicide. As a matter of policy, no further details are going to be released by MPD.
Mauiwatch is reporting a fatal shooting in Haiku. According to their report, Maui Police are arriving on the scene on Uakoko Road.
The only other detail released is that the shooting victim is a 65 year-old man. Details will be released as soon as they are available.

A 36 year-old man died last night in Haiku when the moped he was operating ran head-on into a sedan on Kokomo Road. Than wan is believed to be a visitor from Washington State.
Maui Police reponded to a call at 10:38 Saturday night. Witnesses say the man was operating a black 2012 Ningbo moped, travling north on Kokomo Road. About 120 feet north of Lilikoi Road, his moped crossed the solid double yellow line and impacted the left front of a grey 2003 Audi A4 four-door sedan that was traveling south.
As a result of the collision, the moped operator sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The operator of the Audi, a 43 year-old female from Haiku and her two passengers, a male aged 20 from Haiku, and a 17 year-old female from Makawao, were not injured.
The identity of the thirty-six year old moped operator is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin. The moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. All three occupants within the Audi were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision. Although equipped, the airbags within the Audi did not deploy.
The involvement of speed, alcohol, and drugs remain under investigation.
This is Maui County’s 13th traffic fatality for 2013. There were 20 at this same time last year.
A Haiku man is free on bail today after he allegedly shot another man with a BB gun Friday night.
Maui Police say 41 year-old John Amoral threatened a neighbor with the gun, then fired – slightly injuring the victim. Police got the call at 11:09 p.m. Friday and took Amoral into custody. He was charged with two counts of terroristic threatening and one count of assault in the third degree. A published report says Amoral was released after posting $2,000 bail.
The investigation continues.
A Haiku fire destroyed a quonset hut, two vehicles and two acres of brush today in Haiku.
Maui Fire Department crews from Haiku Fire fighters responded to 250 N. Honokala Road for a structure fire in Haiku at 11:30 a.m. today. They arrived to find an 800 square foot (20′ x 40′) quonset hut that was totally involved with fire. The hut and its contents were destroyed along with two vehicles that were parked next to the structure.
The structure fire started a brush fire that burned about two acres between Waipio road and Honokala Road. Both fires were called extinguished at 2:02 p.m. Fire Inspectors are on scene conducting an investigation. No injuries were reported.
WAILUKU – The County of Maui Solid Waste Division announced a missed route affecting some areas in Haiku today due to mechanical problems.

A Haiku man was identified by two witnesses as the man they say was breaking into a car in Kahului this afternoon. Today at 1:49 p.m., Wailuku Patrol Officers responded to an in progress Unauthorized Entry Into A Motor Vehicle along Lalo Street in Kahului.
Officers were able to identify the responsible, Robert CORNIEL, through two witness statements. CORNIEL was located walking along Alamaha Street a short time later. CORNIEL was then arrested for two counts of Unauthorized Entry Into a Motor Vehicle.
Robert CORNIEL is a 55 year-old resident of Haiku. CORNIEL was charged for two counts of Unauthorized Entry Into a Motor Vehicle. Bail is set at $10,000.00
