WAILUKU – The Department of Water Supply (DWS) announced that the entrance to Iliili Road from South Kihei Road will be closed on Friday, October 31, 2014 while DWS personnel repair a leaking water service. The project is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and should be completed by 3:00 p.m.
Motorists are advised to follow traffic control and use Kaiau Place for access to and from Iliili Road. South Kihei Road will remain open; however, DWS personnel will be working on the makai side of the road so southbound drivers should drive with extreme caution when passing the work site.
Water will be shut off at Cove Park only. Customers are requested to call the 24-hour service line (270-7633) only if a water emergency occurs.
Kihei fire fighters responded to Cove Park for a report of a shark bite. Crews arrived and found a 66 year-old female with two lacerations, about two inches in size, on her lower right leg. Earlier reports indicated the victim was male.
Upon investigation, according to Maui Fire Department Services Chief Lee Mainaga, it was most likely not a shark bite. Fire fighters provided first aid to the Paia resident. She declined transport by medics to the hospital. The female was surfing and fell off of her board when this incident happened.
Lifeguards patrolled the beaches but nothing found. Beach remained open.
