EVENT: The National Weather Service has CONTINUED the HIGH SURF WARNING for NORTH and WEST FACING SHORES of MAUI & MOLOKAI in effect until 6:00 p.m. this evening.
A High Surf Warning means that dangerous, battering waves will pound the shoreline. This will result in very dangerous swimming conditions, and deadly rip currents.
EFFECTS: A large north-northwest swell will gradually subside through today. Warning level surf is still expected along north and west facing shores through this evening.
Expect rising surf to 20-30 feet along north facing shores and 15-20 feet along west facing shores.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
IMPACTS: EXPECT OCEAN WATER SWEEPING ACROSS PORTIONS OF BEACHES, VERY STRONG BREAKING WAVES, AND STRONG LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS. BREAKING WAVES MAY OCCASIONALY IMPACT HARBORS ENTRANCES, MAKING NAVIGATING THE HARBOR CHANNEL DANGEROUS.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: LARGE BREAKING SURF, SIGNIFICANT SHOREBREAK AND DANGEROUS CURRENTS MAKE ENTERING THE WATER VERY HAZARDOUS. ANYONE ENTERING THE WATER COULD FACE SIGNIFICANT INJURY OR DEATH. BOATERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF AN INCREASED NUMBER OF SURFERS AND BODY BOARDERS UTILIZING THE HARBOR CHANNEL TO ACCESS SURFING AREAS.
