A theft case involving a veteran Maui Police officer has steadily grown in suspects. Yesterday morning at 9 a.m., Officer Chase K. Keliipaakaua, 29, from Kihei, was placed under arrest for the offense of Bribery Of A Witness and Hindering Prosecution In The First Degree. After a similar arrest for a similar offense a few days ago, those alleged to be involved with the crime do not appear to be learning from their mistakes…nor of those among associates who have already been arrested.
Keliipaakaua has been a sworn police officer with the Maui Police Department with about six years of service.
He was released pending further investigation. In addition, an Administrative Investigation was initiated and he has been assigned to desk duties.
This is the third arrest after an October 1 arrest of Officer Anthony Maldonado in a Second Degree theft case. Read that original report.
On October 16, Damien K. Kaina was arrested on charges similar to those filed against Keliipaakaua. Read that report here.
