EVENT: The National Weather Service has ISSUED a HIGH SURF ADVISORY for SOUTH FACING SHORES of MAUI COUNTY in effect until 6:00 am Sunday.
A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
EFFECTS: A long period swell from the south southwest has boosted surf heights along south facing shores to advisory level heights. This swell is expected to continue through Saturday night and then slowly taper off Sunday.
Expect surf of 6 to 9 feet along south facing shores through Saturday night
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: EXPECT STRONG BREAKING WAVES, SHORE BREAK, AND STRONG LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS, MAKING SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS. BEACHGOERS, SWIMMERS, AND SURFERS SHOULD HEED ALL ADVICE GIVEN BY OCEAN SAFETY OFFICIALS AND EXERCISE CAUTION.
