Wailuku – Manpower shortages are taking their toll on landfill operations in Maui County – in Hana and on Moloka’i.
Due to insufficient manpower, the Molokai Landfill will close at 1 p.m. from October 6 to 10 and again from October 13 to 17. The closures are necessary for the department to ensure safe operations and meet the minimum State Department of Health operating requirements of the County’s solid waste permit.
The County of Maui Dept. of Environmental Management, Solid Waste Division, today announced that due to insufficient staffing, the Hana Landfill will close at 1 p.m. this Thursday, October 8.
With soon-to-be filled Equipment Operator positions approved bythe Maui County Council, the landfill closures are expected to be reduced. The Solid Waste Division apologizes for the inconvenience.
