A Wailuku man has died after he was struck by a vehicle on Kaahumanu Avenue last night.
Maui Police say 48 year-old Terence John Moniz was crossing the busy street and was not in a marked crosswalk. The collision occurred at 8:21 p.m. as a Ford Edge MPVH, traveling east on Kaahumanu Avenue within the outer most lane, collided into a pedestrian who darted across into the roadway, headed in a northerly direction.
Moniz was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical (life-threatening) condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of the Ford MPVH, a 73 year-old year old male from Kihei, was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.
The involvement of speed, drugs, and alcohol are still pending as the investigation is ongoing.
