Customers in five East Maui communities will be without power this coming Monday.
In an effort to upgrade and improve the electrical service Maui Electric provides to the East Maui community, electrical service to customers in the Nahiku, Keanae, Peahi, Huelo, and Kailua areas will be interrupted, weather permitting, as follows:
Date: Monday, September 14, 2015
Time: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Areas affected: Nahiku, Keanae, Peahi, Huelo and Kailua
Safe completion of the job will require an interruption in electrical service during this time for approximately 700 residential and business customers in these areas. Before the outage, customers are advised to please unplug all unnecessary sensitive electric equipment until power is restored.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank our customers for their patience,” said Sharon Suzuki, president of Maui Electric. “For safety reasons, electrical power must be interrupted while crews work as quickly as possible to ensure reliable service to all of our customers in these areas. Such regular maintenance and upgrades to our electrical system is integral in keeping the lights on for our customers.”
As part of the project, Maui Electric crews will be conducting work at the recently upgraded Keanae Substation, which provides electrical service to customers in Keanae and Nahiku. In order to make necessary connections and safely transfer load to the upgraded substation, crews also need to de-energize existing 23 kilovolt power lines as well as upgrade multiple poles that feed electricity to customers in Peahi, Huelo, and Kailua.
