EVENT: The National Weather Service has continued the HIGH SURF ADVISORY for SOUTH FACING SHORES of MOLOKAI and MAUI in effect until 6:00 p.m. Saturday.
A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
EFFECTS: Advisory level surf will continue through Saturday and may need to be extended
Through Sunday along south facing shores. Expect surf along south facing shores of up to 6 to 8 feet tonight and rising to 7 to 10 feet Saturday.
Meanwhile, The National Weather Service has continued the HIGH SURF WARNING for EAST FACING SHORES of MOLOKAI and MAUI, in effect until 6:00 p.m. Saturday.
A High Surf Warning means that dangerous, battering waves will pound the shoreline. This will result in very dangerous swimming conditions, and deadly rip currents.
EFFECTS: Hazardous surf will continue to impact the east facing shores through at least early next week. Expect surf along east facing shores of 12 to 18 feet.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: EXPECT STRONG BREAKING WAVES, SHORE BREAK, AND STRONG LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS, MAKING SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS. BEACHGOERS, SWIMMERS, AND SURFERS SHOULD HEED ALL ADVICE GIVEN BY OCEAN SAFETY OFFICIALS AND EXERCISE CAUTION.
THESE DANGEROUS CONDITIONS MEAN THAT ONLY HIGHLY EXPERIENCED PERSONS SHOULD ENTER THE WATER. INEXPERIENCED PERSONS SHOULD REMAIN OFF BEACHES AND ADJACENT BEACHFRONT AREAS. LARGE BREAKING SURF…SIGNIFICANT SHORE BREAK…AND DANGEROUS CURRENTS MAKE ENTERING THE WATER VERY HAZARDOUS. ANYONE ENTERING THE WATER COULD FACE SIGNIFICANT INJURY OR DEATH.
