Here Comes Hilda! A Tropical storm Thursday is on the verge of becoming a raging Category Three hurricane. Category 3 hurricanes have winds that range between 111 and 129 mph. Hilda is at category 2 now, and currently has sustained winds of 105 mph…with gusts to near 127 mph. This system will continue to strengthen through the next 24 hours.
Maui Weather Master Glenn James says , “It appears that this tropical cyclone, in whatever form that it takes next week, will impact our weather conditions Wednesday-Thursday time frame. It now looks likely that it will come close enough to the Aloha state, to bring us potentially rough weather. It’s too early to know the exact details, although looking at the situation now, we could find large surf impacting our northeastern shores, potentially tropical storm force winds…and heavy, potentially flooding rainfall…please stay tuned for additional updates.
But wait! there’s More!
James adds, “Meanwhile, there’s yet another tropical disturbance in the eastern Pacific, being referred to as Invest 93E. If it gains sufficient strength, the storm will be named Ignacio – a name that has never been used before.”
