EVENT: The National Weather Service has ISSUED a HIGH SURF ADVISORY for EAST FACING SHORES of MAUI COUNTY in effect until 6 p.m. today.
A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
EFFECTS: A northeast swell will increase surf to advisory level heights along east facing shores through Wednesday.
Expect surf of 5 to 8 feet along east facing shores continuing though the day Wednesday.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: EXPECT STRONG BREAKING WAVES, SHORE BREAK, AND STRONG LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS, MAKING SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS. BEACHGOERS, SWIMMERS, AND SURFERS SHOULD HEED ALL ADVICE GIVEN BY OCEAN SAFETY OFFICIALS AND EXERCISE CAUTION. BOATERS SHOULD EXPECT SURFERS AND BODY BOARDERS UTILIZING HARBOR CHANNELS TO ACCESS SURFING AREAS.
