Two Lahaina men are in critical and serious condition, respectively, at Maui Memorial Medical Center this morning after the Jeep they were riding in overturned shortly before midnight Wednesday in Lahaina. Only one vehicle was involved in the crash.
At about seven minutes before midnight, a green 1999 Jeep Wrangler was traveling north on Honoapi’ilani Highway near Wahikuli Road. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, sending the Jeep – and the two men – off the paved right-of-way, striking the shoulder and rolling over. Both men were thrown from the Jeep when it rolled over.
Police closed the highway until 3:19 a.m. while they conducted their investigation. So far, they have determined that seat belts were not used by either of the men.
The involvement of speed, drugs and/or alcohol have not yet been determined.
