A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
An easterly swell combined with locally generated trade wind waves will produce elevated rough surf along east facing shores of Maui and Molokai this weekend.
EFFECTS: Expect surf of 5 to 8 feet along east facing shores through late Sunday afternoon. Strong onshore winds fueled by easterly trades will make conditions sloppy.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
IMPACTS: EXPECT STRONG BREAKING WAVES, SHORE BREAK, AND STRONG LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS, MAKING SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: BEACHGOERS, SWIMMERS, AND SURFERS SHOULD HEED ALL ADVICE GIVEN BY OCEAN SAFETY OFFICIALS AND EXERCISE CAUTION.
INFORMATION: Maui Civil Defense will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or NOAA Weather broadcasts for any updates.
