The National Weather Service has ISSUED a HIGH SURF WARNING for NORTH and WEST FACING SHORES of MOLOKAI and MAUI, in effect from 6:00 p.m. this evening to 6:00 p.m. Friday. Also, a Wind Advisory remains in effect for Haleakala,
A High Surf Warning means that dangerous, battering waves will pound the shoreline. This will result in very dangerous swimming conditions, and deadly rip currents.
EFFECTS: An expected northwest swell will increase surf heights above warning threshold across exposed north and west facing shores starting this evening.
Expect surf of 22 to 26 feet across north facing shores of Molokai and Maui, and 16 to 20 feet across west facing shores of Molokai, from 6 p.m. this evening through 6 p.m. Friday.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
IMPACTS: EXPECT OCEAN WATER OCCASIONALLY SWEEPING ACROSS
PORTIONS OF BEACHES, WITH VERY STRONG BREAKING WAVES AND STRONG
LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS. BREAKING WAVES MAY OCCASIONALLY
IMPACT HARBORS MAKING NAVIGATING THE HARBOR CHANNEL DANGEROUS.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: LARGE BREAKING SURF, SIGNIFICANT SHOREBREAK, AND DANGEROUS CURRENTS MAKE ENTERING THE WATER VERY HAZARDOUS. ANYONE ENTERING THE WATER COULD FACE SIGNIFICANT INJURY OR DEATH. BOATERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF AN INCREASED NUMBER OF SURFERS AND BODY BOARDERS UTILIZING THE HARBOR CHANNEL TO ACCESS SURFING AREAS.
