Maui Police have released details on the tragic drowning of a man visiting from Washington State.
At about 3:06 p.m. Monday, officers were sent to South Maluaka Beach Park, located fronting the Makena Beach and Golf Resort in Kihei, regarding a male victim being pulled from the water.
Larry Robins, a 53 year-old visitor from Spokane, WA, had been snorkeling. He was spotted floating on the surface unresponsive. He was pulled from the water by beach goers and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was started.
Upon police arrival they took over CPR until Medic 14 and Rescue 14 arrived on scene. Despite all life saving measures Robins was pronounce dead at the scene.
While drowning is likely the cause, an official cause of death is pending autopsy.
