The National Weather Service has issued a HIGH SURF ADVISORY for SOUTH FACING SHORES of MAUI, MOLOKAI and LANAI, in effect from 6:00 a.m. Saturday until 6:00 a.m. Sunday.
A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
EFFECTS: Increasing southwest winds will lead to increasing short-period surf along south facing shores through Saturday, with winds and waves diminishing on Sunday.
Expect surf of 6 to 8, building tonight, peaking Saturday, and diminishing Sunday.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
IMPACTS: EXPECT STRONG BREAKING WAVES, SHORE BREAK, AND STRONG LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS, MAKING SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: BEACHGOERS, SWIMMERS, AND SURFERS SHOULD HEED ALL ADVICE GIVEN BY OCEAN SAFETY OFFICIALS AND EXERCISE CAUTION.
