EVENTS: The National Weather Service has continued the HIGH SURF WARNING for NORTH and WEST FACING SHORES of MOLOKAI and NORTH FACING SHORES of MAUI until 6:00 p.m. today.
A High Surf Warning means that dangerous, battering waves will pound the shoreline. This will result in very dangerous swimming conditions, and deadly rip currents.
EFFECTS: A large northwest swell will continue to affect most north and west facing shores of the Island chain through this afternoon. Surf along the north facing shores of Molokai and Maui will reach 20 to 30 feet and 15 to 20 feet along west facing shores of Molokai.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
IMPACTS: EXPECT OCEAN WATER OCCASSIONALY SWEEPING ACROSS PORTIONS OF BEACHES, VERY STRONG BREAKING WAVES AND STRONG LONG SHORE AND RIP CURRENTS.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: THESE DANGEROUS CONDITIONS MEAN THAT ONLY HIGHLY EXPERIENCED PERSONS SHOULD ENTER THE WATER. INEXPERIENCED PERSONS SHOULD REMAIN OFF BEACHES AND ADJACENT BEACHFRONT AREAS. LARGE BREAKING SURF, SIGNIFICANT SHORE BREAK AND DANGEROUS CURRENTS MAKE ENTERING THE WATER VERY HAZARDOUS. ANYONE ENTERING THE WATER COULD FACE SIGNIFICANT INJURY OR DEATH.
