At 1:31 p.m. today, Maui police arrested 38 year-old Pakluke Lau, a resident of Ka’amola, Moloka’i and charged him with the following offenses in relation to an incident earlier this month:
- Attempted Murder in the First Degree
- Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree
- Violation of an Order of Protection (two counts)
- Reckless Driving (two counts)
On January 7 at about 7:40 a.m., a 35 year-old woman from Kaunakai was driving westbound on Kamehameha V Highway when she saw a car approaching her from behind at a high rate of speed. Lau’s vehicle impacted the woman’s car sending Lau’s vehicle through a fence and onto the grounds of Kaunakakai School. Fortunately the school was still out on Winter Break so there were no keiki in the path of the careening car. The woman sustained minor injuries, but Lau was airlifted to O’ahu with non-life threatening injuries.
The charges listed above are in addition to charges filed the day of the incident for two counts of Criminal Property Damage.
Lau’s bail has been set at $115,000.00
