What began as a reckless driving event appears to have escalated to road rage Tuesday evening in Kihei – eventually ending with the arrest of a man for Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree.
Maui Police say the incident began around 7 p.m .on Honoapi’ilani Highway near the intersection with North Kihei Road. Two vehicles had been driving recklessly, and both continued toward the Pi’ilani Highway. At that intersection, the victim called 911, while the driver of the vehicle waved his arms in what was described as a threatening manner. As the vehicles continued along Pi’ilani Highway, the apparent aggressor, 20 year-old Marcus K. Kamali’i of Kula, drew a pistol and began shooting at the victim’s car. The pistol turned out to be a BB gun.
The victim followed the dispatcher’s instructions and met with officers down the road. Kamali’i had left the area in his vehicle. He was later located and met officers at the Kihei Police Station. Kamali’i was arrested for Terroristic Threatening I. Numerous traffic offenses have been suggested as additional charges.
Kamali’i was released pending further investigation. No injuries or damages were reported as a result of this incident. There is no further information at this time as the investigation continues.
