An argument turned physical Saturday night outside Kahale’s Bar in Kihei – sending one man to the hospital and the other to jail.
Maui Police say that, around 10 p.m. on January 17th, a 37 year-old man and Jay D. Penn (known professionally as former UFC champion B.J. Penn) were arguing outside the bar when the argument escalated to a physical confrontation. The victim was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center where he was treated and released.
Less than an hour later, at 10:58 p.m., Police were able to local Penn at the Fairmont Kea Lani Resort in Wailea, where the Hilo native was taken into custody. Penn was released shortly after midnight while Police conduct an investigation within the Criminal Investigative Division. The initial MPD report did not specify what type of injuries the victim suffered – nor whether or not Penn sustained any injuries.
