A Lahaina woman is clinging to life tonight after being struck by a car while crossing a West Maui street this afternoon. According to a Maui Police report, the 61 year-old victim was in a marked crosswalk when – at 4:41 p.m. – she was struck by a Toyota sedan at the intersection of Hanawai and Napilihau Streets in Lahaina.
While making a left turn from Napilihau to Hanawai, the 2010 Toyota sedan failed to yield to the pedestrian who was crossing mauka. The woman sustained critical, life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center’s Emergency Room. The 58 year-old driver of the Toyota was uninjured. The driver was wearing her seatbelt. Her airbags did not deploy. The investigation has not yet determined whether speed, alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident.
