The National Weather Service has continued a HIGH SURF ADVISORY for NORTH FACING SHORES of MAUI and MOLOKAI and WEST FACING SHORES of MOLOKAI, in effect until 6:00 p.m. Saturday.
A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
EFFECTS: A north swell will remain elevated through Saturday. Expect surf building this afternoon through Saturday evening. Surf will peak at heights of 12 to 18 feet along North facing shores and 8 to 12 feet along west facing shores.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: EXPECT STRONG BREAKING WAVES, SHORE BREAK, AND STRONG LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS, MAKING SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS. BEACHGOERS, SWIMMERS, AND SURFERS SHOULD HEED ALL ADVICE GIVEN BY OCEAN SAFETY OFFICIALS AND EXERCISE CAUTION. KNOW YOUR LIMITS. WHEN IN DOUBT…DON’T GO OUT.
