HONOLULU – 2015 is already looking like a banner year for Kolten Wong, with a new major sponsorship agreement and the likelihood of a breakout MLB season for the Hilo born-and-raised Saint Louis Cardinal second base big-hitter. Nerxt Tuesday, the emerging baseball superstar will be on Maui to sign autographs and meet fans at the Jamba Juice in Queen Ka’ahumanu Center. Wong, who hit .249/.292/.388 with 12 homers, 20 stolen bases, 14 doubles and 42 RBIs in 2014, has signed on with Jamba Juice Hawaii as a spokesperson for their new, high-performance line of fresh-squeezed juices.
A Kamehameha Schools graduate, Wong played college baseball for UH Manoa and was co-winner of the 2008 Hawaii Baseball Player of the Year award. Selected by the Cardinals in 2013, he received international media acclaim when he hit a walk-off home run in October 2014 to put the Cardinals into the playoffs. In December, he was nominated for NL Rookie of the Year.
“Jamba Juice has always been a part of my daily work-out routine, so advocating the health and performance benefits of their new fresh-squeezed juice is more than just a business deal for me,” said Wong.
Jamba is the leading retailer of made-to-order, freshly-squeezed juice. The new juices are blended with whole foods like kale, beets, carrots, apples and ginger, and provide consumers with a great-tasting and affordable way to get extra vitamins and nutrition.
Wong’s first appearance as a spokesperson will be on Tuesday, January 13 at Maui’s Queen Kaahumanu Center, between 4-7 pm, where the company will roll out its new juice program for Maui before launching statewide this summer. A portion of Jamba Juice sales for that day will be donated to Maui little league baseball teams.
“Kolten is a local hero doing Hawaii proud on a national stage,” said Chris Scanlan, CEO and owner of the 33 Jamba Juice stores in Hawaii. “We have followed him since his UH days, and his focus on performance, hard work and dietary discipline is as inspirational as is his low-key, no-nonsense response to all the fanfare.”
