The Friendly Isle was the scene of a different kind of road rage incident today that could have turned even worse. This morning, MauiWatch spotters snapped this photo of a badly damaged car that had gone through the fence at Kaunakakai School. Fortunately school is out for Winter Break. Maui Police have since filled in the details.
At 7:40 a.m. today, a 35 year-old Kaunakakai woman was driving westbound on Kamehameha V Highway. At that time, she saw a car approaching from behind at a high rate of speed. Turns out the driver of that car was the woman’s ex-boyfriend, a 38 year-old Kaunakakai resident. The vehicles collided sending one through the fence. The woman sustained only minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The man sustained non life-threatening injuries. He was flown to O’ahu by Life Flight for further treatment. When he returns to Moloka’i, he will face the following charges:
- Two Counts Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree
- One Count of Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree
- One Count Reckless Driving
- Two Counts of Violating An Order of Protection
No names have yet been released by Police.
