The National Weather Service has CONTINUED the WIND ADVISORY for MAUI COUNTY, in effect until 6:00 a.m. Saturday.
A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph or gusts of at least 50 mph are expected.
EFFECTS: An approaching cold front will spread strong and gusty winds across Maui County tonight.
Expect west winds of 25 to 35 mph with local gusts over 50 mph increasing early this evening and peaking overnight. The strongest gusts are expected over the typical windward sides of the islands. Winds will shift to the northwest and gradually diminish later tonight as a front pushes through.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: WINDS THIS STRONG CAN BRING DOWN TREE BRANCHES AND WEAK TREES, CAUSE DAMAGE TO WEAK ROOFS, CAUSE LOCALIZED POWER OUTAGES AND MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT, ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. MOTORISTS SHOULD USE EXTRA CAUTION.
INFORMATION: Maui Civil Defense Agency will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts for any updates.
