There was more drama on the high seas today. Shortly before noon, a snorkel cruise boat began taking on water. The vessel, Maha Nai’a, reportedly had issues with her engines en route back to Ma’alaea Harbor.
At 11:44 a.m. today, Maui Police and the Coast Guard were alerted that the vessel was inbound to Ma’alaea. Still about a mile from the harbor, the vessel – with 52 passengers and three crewmembers – reported that she was taking on water. A Coast Guard vessel responded and began dewatering procedures. Fortunately for all involved, the dewatering was successful and Maha Nai’a was escorted safely back to Ma’alaea Harbor.
There were no injuries.
