A Christmas snorkel cruise turned tragic for a Virginia visitor. At 12:13 p.m. on Chriustmas Day, U.S. Coast Guard and paramedics were alerted that a boat was en route to Ma’alaea Harbor with an unresponsive male aboard. The man has been identified as 39 year-old Dan Tuma, a visitor on holiday from Virginia.

Police say Tuma was snorkeling with a family member when he suffered difficulty breathing. He soon fell unconscious and was brought aboard the boat. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation was administered but was ineffective.
While the apparent cause of death appears to be drowning, the official cause will be pending autopsy results.
