The National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD ADVISORY for the Island of Molokai, in effect until 8:00 p.m. tonight. This advisory may need to be extended if heavy rain persists.
A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is also in effect for Molokai in Maui county until 6 pm Wednesday.
EFFECTS: At 4:58 pm radar indicated persistent moderate to heavy rainfall over the eastern mountainous portions of Molokai. The rainfall has resulted in a steady rise in stream levels in coastal locations stretching from Halawa valley along the south coast to Kaunakakai. Additional rainfall along with elevated stream levels can be expected through the evening hours. Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Kualapuu, Kalaupapa, Hoolehua and Halawa valley.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: STAY AWAY FROM STREAMS, DRAINAGE DITCHES AND LOW LYING AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING. RAINFALL AND RUNOFF WILL ALSO CAUSE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO PONDING, REDUCED VISIBILITY AND POOR BRAKING ACTION. DO NOT CROSS FAST FLOWING OR RISING WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE OR ON FOOT. TURN AROUND…DON’T DROWN.
