EVENT: The National Weather Service has issued a FLASH FLOOD WARNING for the Island of MAUI, in effect until 12:15 a.m. This Warning may need to be extended if flash flooding persists.
A Flood Watch is also in effect until Wednesday evening.
EFFECTS: At 9:14 p.m. radar showed heavy rain near Nahiku or about 21 miles east of Kahului. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary. Other locations in the warning include but are not limited to Pukalani, Makawao, Keanae and Hamoa.The National Weather Service has extended the Flood Advisory for the Island of Maui, now in effect until 1:15 a.m. This advisory may need to be extended if heavy rain persists.
There continues to be a FLASH FLOOD WATCH in effect for all of Maui County until Wednesday evening.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: STAY AWAY FROM STREAMS, DRAINAGE DITCHES AND LOW LYING AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING. RAINFALL AND RUNOFF WILL ALSO CAUSE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO PONDING, REDUCED VISIBILITY AND POOR BRAKING ACTION. DO NOT CROSS FAST FLOWING OR RISING WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE OR ON FOOT. TURN AROUND…DON’T DROWN.
