A Wailuku man is under arrest, charged with terroristic threatening after an encounter with police Thursday night.
According to the Maui Police report, at 7:32 p.m. last night, while investigating an abuse type case involving 48 year-old James Fairbanks, of Wailuku, Fairbanks retreated to his room and refused to come out upon police arrival. Fairbanks brandished what appeared to be a sword and pellet rifle and challenged the officers to come in and get him. Fairbanks made several threats to kill the officers and others at the residence.
The Maui Police Department Crisis Negotiators were contacted who arrived on scene and brought the situation to a peacefully resolution.
Fairbanks was placed under arrest and charged for the offenses of three counts of Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree, Abuse of Family/Household Member and Resisting Arrest. Fairbanks’ bail is set at $18,000.00
