The National Weather Service has extended the WIND ADVISORY for Lanai, Molokai, and Maui, now in effect until 6:00 a.m. Monday.
A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph, or gusts of at least 50 mph, are expected.
EFFECTS: Expect northeast winds of 20 to 35 mph, with localized gusts over 50 mph through channeled areas, and areas over and immediately to the lee of the mountains where the trade winds blow downslope, through 6:00 a.m. Monday. The advisory may need to be extended if strong winds persist.
IMPACTS: WINDS THIS STRONG CAN BRING DOWN TREE BRANCHES AND MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT, ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. MOTORISTS SHOULD USE EXTRA CAUTION.
Maui Civil Defense Agency will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or NOAA Weather Radio for any updates. NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts can be reached by calling 1-866-944-5025. The NOAA Weather internet services can be found at www.prh.noaa.gov/hnl.
