The National Weather Service has continued the WIND ADVISORY for Lanai, Molokai, and Maui, in effect until 6:00 p.m. Sunday.
A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph, or gusts of at least 50 mph, are expected.
EFFECTS: High pressure building north of Hawaii will drive strong and gusty trade winds across many areas of the State, tonight through Sunday.
Expect northeast winds of 20 to 40 mph, with localized gusts over 50 mph through channeled areas, and areas over and immediately to the lee of the mountains where the trade winds blow downslope, tonight through Sunday.
IMPACTS: WINDS THIS STRONG CAN BRING DOWN TREE BRANCHES AND MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT, ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.
Maui Civil Defense Agency will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or NOAA Weather Radio for any updates. NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts can be reached by calling 1-866-944-5025. The NOAA Weather internet services can be found at www.prh.noaa.gov/hnl.
Pre-recorded advisories and notifications are available 24-hours a day on the Maui County Automated Information System (AIS) by calling 986-1200.
