The National Weather Service has issued a WIND ADVISORY for Lanai, Molokai, and Maui, in effect from noon today to 6:00 p.m. Sunday.
A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph, or gusts of at least 50 mph, are expected.
EFFECTS: High pressure building north of Hawaii will drive strong and gusty trade winds across many areas of the State, this afternoon through Sunday.
Expect northeast winds of 20 to 40 mph, with localized gusts over 50 mph. In Maui County, the strongest winds will be in the lee of mountain areas across much of Lanai and through the Central valley of Maui, from Wailuku to Maalaea Harbor.
IMPACTS: WINDS THIS STRONG CAN BRING DOWN TREE BRANCHES AND
MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT, ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.
Maui Civil Defense Agency will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or NOAA Weather Radio for any updates. NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts can be reached by calling 1-866-944-5025. The NOAA Weather internet services can be found at www.prh.noaa.gov/hnl.
Pre-recorded advisories and notifications are available 24-hours a day on the Maui County Automated Information System (AIS) by calling 986-1200.
