A young Maui woman is in pain – but should recover completely – after a fall in Upcountry Maui Today.
Maui Fire and Rescue Fire Engine 5 and Kahului Rescue 10 responded to a 1:08 p.m. Mountain Rescue at the Waihou Springs Trail in Olinda, where a 21 year-old local female fell off the trail to the bottom of a rocky out dried out river bed. The young lady fell about 20 feet off the side of the trail near the area known as the Caves, while hiking with friends. She sustained severe pain and discomfort to her ribs which made it difficult for her to breath and move.
Rescue crews used a single wheeled basket to hike her, approximately one mile, back up the steep, switch-back trail. Maui Paramedics were waiting at the top of the trail and transported her to Maui Memorial Medical Center with non life threatening injuries.
