Five units and crews of the Maui Fire Department saved the day for a woman and her three dogs Saturday night in Wailuku. The home, however, didn’t fare as well. At 7:48 p.m. last night, Wailuku firefighters arrived to a small two-story home ablaze at 2363 Vineyard Street. All occupants had evacuated and the fire was quickly brought under control.
MFD Engine 1, Engine 10, Rescue 10, Hazmat 10 and Batallion Chief 6 were dispatched on the original call. The home was fully engulfed in flames. The first fire was completely ablaze and the second floor was beginning to burn heavily. However, crews brought the fire under conrol in 10 minute and it was completely extinguished by 10:33 p.m. Damage is estimated at $100,000 for the structure and $50,000 for contents.
Red Cross volunteers came to the scene but the woman and her dogs declined assistance. Actually, the woman declined assistance on behalf of her dogs. The dogs had no comment.
Cause of the fire remains undetermined.
