EVENTS: The National Weather Service has continued the HIGH SURF WARNING for EAST FACING SHORES of MOLOKAI and MAUI in effect until 6 p.m.
A High Surf Warning means that dangerous, battering waves will pound the shoreline. This will result in very dangerous swimming conditions, and deadly rip currents.
EFFECTS: A large northeast swell will bring surf along east facing shores to warning levels today. Expect surf heights to reach 12 to 18 feet through this evening.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
IMPACTS: Expect waves to occasionally reach low-lying coastal roadways bringing sand and debris. Very strong breaking waves and strong longshore and rip currents are possible. Breaking waves may occasionally impact harbors making navigating the harbor channel dangers.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: BEACHGOERS, SWIMMERS AND SURFERS SHOULD HEED ALL ADVICE GIVEN BY OCEAN SAFETY OFFICIALS AND EXERCISE CAUTION.
INFORMATION: Maui Civil Defense Agency will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts for any updates.
