The National Weather Service has issued a HIGH SURF ADVISORY for NORTH FACING SHORES of MAUI and MOLOKAI, in effect until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.
A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
A large north northwest swell will keep surf above advisory levels across north facing shores of the smaller islands through Tuesday.
EFFECTS: Expect surf along the north facing shores of 10 to 15 feet.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
IMPACTS: EXPECT STRONG BREAKING WAVES, SHORE BREAK, AND STRONG LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS, MAKING SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: BEACHGOERS, SWIMMERS, AND SURFERS SHOULD HEED ALL ADVICE GIVEN BY OCEAN SAFETY OFFICIALS AND EXERCISE CAUTION. WHEN IN DOUBT…DON’T GO OUT.
