After an extensive investigation, Maui Police have arrested Anthony Souza IV of Wailuku in the death of a pedestrian after an accident along Honoapi’ilani Highway last December.
Maui Police say the 33 year-old was indicted on a warrant in the death of Rosalie Miller. The fatal accident happened December 23, 2013 when – Police say – the victim was walking along a bicycle lane at 8:17 a.m. that day. Souza has been charged with the following crimes:
- Manslaughter
- Negligent Homicide in the First Degree
- Accident Involving Injury or Death
- Operative a Vehicle Under the Influence of Liquor
- Excessive Speed
Vehicle Homicide Sergeant William Hankins states that this arrest is the culmination of hundreds of hours spent reconstructing the crash by highly trained crash investigators of the Maui Police Department Vehicle Homicide Section. Sergeant Hankins stated, “families of crash victims who are killed or seriously injured deserve justice. It is the goal of the Maui Police Department Vehicle Homicide Section to thoroughly investigate these crashes and work with the prosecutor’s office to hold those responsible for their actions.”
