A Kula man has become the 20th traffic fatality of 2014. It happened Thursday afternoon near the Central Maui Landfill.
Police say 44 year-old Frederick Brittain II was driving a Ford Ranger eastbound on Pulehu Road. Around 3:53 p.m., Brittain’s Ranger was impacted by a Toyota pickup truck that had crossed the center line, heading in the opposite direction. The Ranger was not equipped with airbags and Police say Brittain was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The victim was ejected from the vehicle, sustaining fatal injuries. The 22 year-old man driving the Toyota was not injured. The possible involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol are still under investigation.
At this time last year, 14 people had died in traffic accidents on Maui County roads.
