The National Weather Service has issued a HIGH SURF ADVISORY for NORTH FACING SHORES of MOLOKAI and MAUI which is in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday.
A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
EFFECTS: A north northwest swell will arrive later tonight, peak Saturday night, than gradually subside Sunday. Expect surf of 10 to 15 feet along north facing shores of Molokai and Maui.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: EXPECT STRONG BREAKING WAVES, SHOREBREAK, AND STRONG LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS, MAKING SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS. LARGE BREAKING SURF, SIGNIFICANT SHOREBREAK, AND DANGEROUS CURRENTS MAKE ENTERING THE WATER VERY HAZARDOUS. ANYONE ENTERING THE WATER COULD FACE SIGNIFICANT INJURY OR DEATH. BOATERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF AN INCREASED NUMBER OF SURFERS AND BODY BOARDERS UTILIZING THE HARBOR CHANNEL TO ACCESS SURFING AREAS.
INFORMATION: Maui Civil Defense Agency will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts for any updates.
