The National Weather Service in Honolulu has ISSUED a Flood Advisory for the Island of MAUI in effect until 3:00 p.m.
EFFECTS: At 11:56 a.m. HST radar showed heavy showers that were nearly stationary over the slopes above Hamoa and Hana. Other heavy showers are expected to develop near Ulupalakua during the afternoon. Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Kula, Makena and Hana. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 3 pm. HST if heavy rain persists.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: STAY AWAY FROM STREAMS, DRAINAGE DITCHES AND LOW LYING AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING. RAINFALL AND RUNOFF WILL ALSO CAUSE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO PONDING, REDUCED VISIBILITY AND POOR BRAKING ACTION. DO NOT CROSS FAST FLOWING OR RISING WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE OR ON FOOT. TURN AROUND…DON’T DROWN.
