A Haiku man is in critical condition this morning after a serious crash Sunday afternoon in Haiku. Maui Police say that, at 4:06 p.m., the 26 year-old man lost control of his 1991 Jeep Wrangler while traveling down West Kuiaha Road, near Kaupakalua Road.
The driver – alone in the SUV – failed to negotiate a curve in the road and collided into a tree. He was transferred to Maui Memorial Medical Center with critical, life-threatening injuries. The man was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Speed is suspected as a factor in the crash. The involvement of drugs and alcohol are still pending as their investigation continues.
