A brief – but intense – brush fire had residents of Tavares Bay and Kuau Cove on edge just before sunset Monday.
At 5:17 p.m., Maui Fire Department crews from Engine 2 and Engine 5 were dispatched to Tavares Bay, off Kuau Beach Place. Crews arrived to find an area of cane grass and light shrubs ablaze. The area was away from homes, near an old cemetery – and about 1,500 square feet in size.
The fire was brought under control at 5:35 p.m. and was called extinguished at 6:10 p.m. Fire cause is “undetermined” and no investigation will ensue since there were no monetary damages.
