The National Weather Service in Honolulu has ISSUED a FLOOD ADVISORY for the ISLAND OF LANAI in effect until 4:45 p.m.
EFFECTS: At 1:42 p.m. radar showed heavy rain near Lanai City. The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary. A rain gauge in the northwest portion of Lanai reported 2.76 inches of rainfall in the past hour. Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Shipwreck Beach and Koele.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: STAY AWAY FROM STREAMS, DRAINAGE DITCHES AND LOW LYING AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING. RAINFALL AND RUNOFF WILL ALSO CAUSE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO PONDING, REDUCED VISIBILITY AND POOR BRAKING ACTION. DO NOT CROSS FAST FLOWING OR RISING WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE OR ON FOOT. TURN AROUND…DON’T DROWN.
