A pile of driftwood was set afire along the rocky shoreline near Paukukalo Sunday afternoon. At 3:33 p.m., Maui Fire Departments from Wailuku and Kahului responded to reports of a brush fire on Kaae Road. A water tanker was also dispatched from Kahului.
Upon arrival, crews discovered a pile of driftwood burning – an area of about 300 square feet on a rocky shoreline, Kahului side of Iao Stream. No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened. Neighbors reported the fire but say they don’t know how it started. Fire cause remains undetermined and was extinguished at 4:19 p.m.
