Maui Fire Department crews continue to work alongside County workers and West Maui Land crews to contain a fire in the hills above Ka’anapali Coffee Farm.
Capt. Paul Haake of MFD says that – as of 4:36 p.m. – the fire is 30 percent contained. The initial estimate from shortly after noon today remains at about 60 acres of dry brush burned.
Captain Haake says no homes or other structures are threatened and that there have been no injuries. No word yet on the cause of the blaze. Shortly after the fire was first reported at 11:46 a.m., today, residents of the Pu’ukoli’i neighborhood lost electrical power. Most customers were restored by 3:30 p.m.
However, MECO repair crews aren’t getting a break. A power outage in the Spreckelsville area sent several hundreds of MECO customers into the “dark.”
