The National Weather Service has continued a HIGH SURF ADVISORY for EAST and SOUTH FACING SHORES of MAUI COUNTY, in effect until 6:00 a.m. Saturday.
EFFECTS: A long-period east swell generated by former hurricane Marie will gradually build this afternoon and tonight, with surf reaching advisory level along east facing shores during the afternoon into tonight. A moderate sized south swell will continue to build today into tonight, bringing advisory level surf along south facing shores. Surf on both east and south shores is expected to reach 6 to 9 feet and will remain elevated through Friday night.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: EXPECT STRONG BREAKING WAVES, SHORE BREAK, AND STRONG LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS, MAKING SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS. ALWAYS HEED LIFEGUARD ADVICE AND KNOW YOUR LIMITS. WHEN IN DOUBT DON’T GO OUT.
