The Central Pacific Hurricane Center has issued a Hurricane Warning for Hawai’i Island and a Tropical Storm Warning for Maui County (Maui, Lana’i and Moloka’i). The storm is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, large surf and coastal surge as early as Thursday afternoon.
O’ahu is currently under a tropical storm watch and is expected to be affected by the storm as early as Thursday night.
The Hawai’i Tourism Authority continues to advise visitors currently in the Hawaiian Islands or coming to the Hawaiian Islands to monitor information from the Central Pacific Hurricane Center and Hawaii Emergency Management Agency.
HTA also reports that some airlines and hotels are waiving cancellation and change fees and we advise visitors to contact their airlines and accommodations directly with questions or to confirm reservations.
Safety information can be found through the HTA’s Travel Smart Hawaii website in English, Japanese, Chinese and Korean. Visitors should heed all warnings and avoid forested and coastal areas due to potential for rising streams, flash flooding, falling trees or high surf.
