All eyes are on the Eastern Pacific as powerful category 4 hurricane Iselle is churning along with winds in excess of 110 miles per hour. Now is the time to put your family’s emergency plan in place and be sure you are stocked up on essentials. Here is what your kit should contain. Following closely behind Iselle is Tropical Storm Julio – also expected to strengthen to hurricane status before weakening. The forecast track maps show each storm still at tropical storm strength as they has over Hawai’i from east to west.
Following is this morning’s weather narrative from Maui weather expert, Glenn James:
We’ll find good weather prevailing through the middle of this new week. However, category 4 hurricane Iselle, still in the eastern Pacific…will soon become headline weather news here in Hawaii. The forecast has hurricane Iselle being downgraded to a tropical storm as it approaches the Hawaiian Islands. As this National Hurricane Center’s official track map shows, the islands will have this tropical storm moving through the state Thursday evening into Friday! The models are showing yet another tropical cyclone moving westward into the central Pacific, a couple of days behind Iselle. This system, which has recently become a tropical storm, has taken on the name Julio…and will go on to become a hurricane. Julio could bring another round of heavy weather to the islands by later this coming weekend. Back to the present, we’re still watching tropical depression Genevieve to our southwest of Hawaii, which will be strengthening again back into a tropical storm…as it continues to move safely away westward.
Maui TV News will track the progress of these two systems as they build and head our way.
